G4 / Attack of the Show
So apparently Mr. Chris Morgan, Co-Writer of Boom! Studios SALEM: QUEEN OF THORNS was a guest on G4's Attack of the Show coverage of the San Diego ComicCon and just couldn't stop gushing over my artwork... well, actually I never get mentioned and he spent most of his time talking about that little independent film he wrote, WANTED as well as his next project, a film adaptation of GEARS OF WAR but they did some nifty close ups of my covers for Salem... so I think we all know where it's really at!

Doctor Horrible - Part I
Okay, so if you don't know who Dr. Horrible is I strongly suggest that you get to know him as it is quite possibly one of the funniest and most inventive things I've seen in a good long while. Being a huge Joss Whedon fan it was an easy sell for me. It seems like forever since I sat down to draw something just for me, just for fun and I had been itching to do this one so once I struck on a bit of breathing room I put it down. Anyway, here's the first pass at it -I'm still kicking around some ideas in as far as what to add. Penny will need to get in there for sure. In the six-degrees of separation department, until I found out that my favorite MLB player Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez got traded to the NY YANKEES today (woot!) the highlight of my day had been getting an incredibly generous and kind comment on my blog from one of my favorite artists - Eric Canete, who coincidentally did a Captain Hammer short titled, BE LIKE ME that is featured on My Space / Dark Horse Presents... how's that for a coinky-dink?Saturday, July 12, 2008

SALEM - Issue No. 1 / In Stores Now
Okay, so I'm a little late on this one... it came out last week.Walking into my LCS and seeing copies of my books on the racks is very cool, I can't imagine how that ever gets old but I'm sure the grissled veterans out there are over it - this kid's gonna enjoy it as long as he can! Anywho... another little treat for me, the kind folks at Boom! decided to give me a little more 'air time' and have a spotlight on me in the back of all of their books shipping in May for the Creator of the Month Q&A - Ha! It's like getting that little stick of gum with my baseball cards... tastes about the same too.

SALEM: QUEEN OF THORNS – No. 1 Review on PROJECT FANBOY
“The artwork is amazing, and the storyline packs a unique punch itself. The dialogue flows the way it should for a professionally done story such as this one. I also can happily say I like the characters, the plot, and the little twists so far thrown in. I’m also a big fan of stories that have history to them, and the comic shows it and uses it quite well to develop the entirety of the tale”

MegaCon ‘08
Let me start with a big thanks to Beth Widera and all of the folks at MegaCon as well as the OC Convention Center for putting on such a great show! It was an awesome experience and I look forward to returning. Now if you’ll excuse me I need to launch into a bit of ass-kissing… the highlight of the weekend for me was not only getting to meet but hang out with Boom! Studios Editor-In-Chief, MARK WAID (Kingdom Come, Superman: Birthright, Flash, Captain America). I shared a table with Mr. Waid and on Friday in any case sat between him and Joe Quesada… yeah that was my reaction too. Now my interaction with Mr. Waid prior to actually meeting him has always been positive but seeing him interact with his fans as well as other Professionals was very cool. He’s just a genuinely nice guy – I mean seriously people were coming up to have him sign their copies of 52 – all 52 issues and never once did he gripe or complain. I only regret not bringing my copies of KINGDOM COME for him to sign.
A Special BIG Thanks to all of the people that came by the table and stopped to chat, get a sketch and grab a copy of the book – You’re awesome!

The Raven
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -Only this, and nothing more.'- Edgar Allan Poe

CBI / HOLIDAY PIN-UP
A few of the Comic Book Idol Finalists (including myself) got together to do some 'Holiday Pin-Ups'. This is my relatively uninspired contribution, I had been kicking it around in my head for a while and aside from the skull ornament, wrapping paper background and pin-up girl, I really couldn't think of anything that I wanted to draw. In the end I figured, what the hell? It's been awhile since I drew something for no particular reason so here it is.All together now... Meh'

GOODNIGHT EVEL
Evel Knievel, the hard-living motorcycle daredevil whose jumps over Greyhound buses, live sharks and Idaho's Snake River Canyon made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.Immortalized in the Washington's Smithsonian Institution as "America's Legendary Daredevil," Knievel was best known for a failed 1974 attempt to jump Snake River Canyon on a rocket-powered cycle and a spectacular crash at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. He suffered nearly 40 broken bones before he retired in 1980.
"They started out watching me bust my ass, and I became part of their lives," Knievel said. "People wanted to associate with a winner, not a loser. They wanted to associate with someone who kept trying to be a winner."

018 - GOBBLE, GOBBLE
Okay, that's gotta' be some sort of record... maybe not, I guess it could've been worse. Here's my Gypsy Dancing Girl Type Chick (for lack of a better name). I had a piece of paper left over from my Comic Book Idol 3 Round 2 entry where I printed out the grid from my art boards onto an 8.5" x 11" piece of Bristol - Pencil: 2H Faber-Castell / Ink: Pentel Color Brush (for those who like to know that stuff). In any case - HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I've got lot's to be thankful for and I sincerely hope that all of you can say the same. Have a great one!

017 - HAPPY HALLOWEEN
Okay - Let's do a quick run down, shall we?
If you've been paying attention at all, you know by now that I got eliminated from Comic Book Idol at the end of Round 2 - Yeah, I was pissed about it for a minute but it's cool, believe me... it's a good thing. There are still some very talented Artists vying for that top spot so if you registered to vote on the CBR forum I urge you to continue doing so. My personal favorites are JOSE HOLDER, DAN McDAID and JON REED.
I've been busy working on some pretty cool stuff but it's pretty early into the process so I'm not going to post any of it here, not yet anyway... so since I can't share just yet and since I go a little crazy if I don't get to draw something just for fun, I started on this little diddy tonight. I'll post the pencils for now and then post it again once it's been Inked, maybe I can get someone to color it up too, wouldn't that be snazzy?!
